Our School for the Arts classes include everything from an introduction to theatre and music to workshops that explore creativity, art, and even fencing! Youth classes are available beginning at 2 years of age and extend all the way up through teens.
The School for the Arts offers a fun, engaging, and safe way for your enthusiastic youngsters to express themselves through the exploration of theater. We provide a nurturing environment for young people who need an encouraging push. Our qualified, caring instructors put your child first, and work closely with each individual.

2010-2011 Session Descriptions
Adult/Family Fencing
Adults - challenge yourself! Parents - challenge your kids to a duel! Come to learn and perfect the art of swashbuckling. This class is for adults and for adult/child pairs and groups. Tuition includes rental of foil, mask, jacket and glove.
BRAVO!
Write and perform in an original production at Sunset! Working with professional writers and/or composers, students will develop the concept for their own play or musical. Then they will develop characters and storylines with the instructor. When done conceptualizing, students will then perform their original work for family and friends during a special performance.
Center Stage
This foundation class is the perfect introduction to the world of theatre. Students will use theatre games and exercises to explore the basics of acting--warmups, stage directions, voice, movement, and improvisation--while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence. Students will then apply these skills to perform a play on the last day of class. Each session has a different theme: Fairytales, Folktales, Aesop's Fables, and Poetry and Rhyme.
Creative Drama
Each session focuses on a different theme. Each class is a new adventure for students as we have fun with dramatic play, story enactment, imagination journeys, theatre games, visual arts, music, and movement. "Let's pretend" is the norm for our creative drama class, not just a child's game. Through their experiences with drama, students develop their imaginations and their confidence. Adults come along for the fun in the 2-3 year old class.
Fairytale Redo
Using imagination to tell stories seems to come naturally to many children. Put your ideas on paper and then on stage during this exciting playwriting and acting class. Students will learn all the techniques necessary to write for the stage as well as basic writing skills. Students will write an original play based on a classic fairytale to be performed for family and friends during the final class.
Fencing
I challenge you to a duel! Fencing is an art, as well as a sport. Come challenge yourself as you learn and perfect the art of swashbuckling! Final class will be a duel for family and friends to observe. Tuition includes rental of a foil, mask, jacket and glove.
Improv
This class is designed to foster creative thinking through the art of improvisation, build confidence and to have a lot of fun! Challenging theatre games and exercises will be used to encourage each student's creative and listening skills. Final class will showcase student's work.
Make a Scene
This fun format introduces students to warm-ups, stage direction, theatre etiquette, character analysis, scene work and more while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence. Students will work as an ensemble to perform a scene from a play.
Musical Theatre
Have you always wanted to dance on Broadway?! Learn basic jazz technique so you can sing and dance to your favorite Broadway tunes! Students will learn songs and choreography to popular Broadway musicals.
