Reading a story is magical; taking it to the next step is a ton of fun! Each week is a new adventure for students as they explore classic children’s books. Using imaginative play, props, costumes, and music, students will bring life to stories they know and love. Adults come along for the fun in the 2 – 3 year old class.
Center Stage: Seuss on the Loose
Ages 6 – 8 yr. Mondays 4:30 – 5:30 $80
Let your imagination fly as students explore the wacky characters and vibrant language of Dr. Seuss. Students will use theatre games and exercises to explore the basics of acting – warm-ups, stage directions, voice, movement, and improvisations while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence. Students will then apply these skills to perform the best of Dr. Seuss on the last day of class.
Readers Theater
Ages 9 – 11 yr. Mondays 5:45 – 6:45 $80
Reader's Theater is a strategy in which students read from scripts. Lines are not memorized, but students are encouraged to read with expression. Using only their voices, facial expressions, and bodies, they interpret the emotions, beliefs, attitudes, and motives of the characters. An excellent first step in learning about characterization both on and off the stage. The final class will include a performance for family and friends.
Musical Theater
Ages 6 – 8 yr. Tuesdays 4:30 – 5:30 $80
Ages 9 – 11 yr. Tuesdays 5:45 – 6:45 $80
Have you always wanted to sing and dance on Broadway?! Well at Sunset, anything goes! Students will learn songs and choreography to popular Broadway musicals and explore acting techniques for creating a character onstage. The final class will include a Broadway performance for family and friends.
Fencing
Ages 11 – 18 yr. Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00 – 5:45 $280
I challenge you to a duel! Fencing is an art, as well as a sport. Come challenge yourself as you learn and perfect the art of swashbuckling! Final class will be a duel for family and friends to observe. Tuition includes rental of a foil, mask, jacket and glove.
