Roar, crawl, snarl as we take a trip to the zoo. When you go to the zoo, you can see any kind of animal from all around the world. When you come to Sunset, you can BE any kind of animal from all around the world. Join us as we bring these famous zoo animals and all of their friends to life. Students will have fun with dramatic play, story enactment, imagination journeys, theater games, singing, music, and movement. Think of it as a little bit of acting, a little bit of singing, a little bit of dancing, and a whole lot of fun.

Center Stage: Folktales from Around the World (Ages 6 - 8)

This foundation class is the perfect introduction to the world of theater. Students will use theater games and exercises to explore the basics of acting, while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence.  Using folktales from around the world, students will become characters and explore creative movement and storytelling, travel to distant lands, learn more about this genre of writing, and use the tools of every actor: our voice, body and imagination. Students will perform a play for family and friends on the last day of class. 

Myths and Magic (Ages 9 - 11)

Ages 9 – 11                 Mondays 5:45 – 6:45                          $90

Travel from Ancient Greece to the Arctic Circle as we share myths full of magic and moral dilemmas. After talking about what we find powerful in stories from long ago, we will create new tales with dramatic twists and turns as students learn to share them on stage with brave voices and expressive bodies. Students will use theater games and exercises to explore the basics of acting while learning ensemble building skills and gaining self-confidence. We will also explore the role of the writer in theater with a variety of writing exercises.  On the last day of class, students will perform their magical myths for family and friends.

Musical Theater (Ages 6- 8 & 9 - 11)

Ages 6 – 8                   Tuesdays 4:30 – 5:30                          $90

Ages 9 – 11                 Tuesdays 5:45 – 6:45                          $90

This class introduces vocal technique, movement, and acting skills through some of Broadway’s most popular musicals. Working on material from the Great White Way will build the confidence and skill of young performers. Students will put their singing, dancing, and acting skills together to present a Broadway-worthy performance for family and friends on the last day of class.  Explore the magic of musical theater!
