JOHN McGIVERN RETURNS TO SUNSET PLAYHOUSE!

John McGivern is returning to Sunset Playhouse for a one-night-only holiday monologue performance on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 7:30pm. His 2005 appearance at the Elm Grove theatre played to a sold out crowd and it's anticipated this one too will sell out quickly. A dessert and cocktail reception to benefit Sunset Playhouse will follow the performance and will include an opportunity to meet Mr. McGivern. Tickets are $45.00 for the performance and only $65.00 for both the performance and reception. Tickets can be purchased in person at Sunset Playhouse’s Box Office at 800 Elm Grove Road, by phone at (262) 782-4430, or online at www.sunsetplayhouse.com.
John is the author and star of many autobiographical one-man shows, receiving critical acclaim all over the country. His first show, "Midwest Side Story," opened to rave reviews at the Baliwick Theater in Chicago. He has won numerous accolades for this production including the 1994 John W. Schmid Award for Best Writer of a New Work and the After Dark Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor.

Through the years his shows, based on his real life experiences, have taken on slightly different names including "More Midwest Side Stories," "John McGivern Live," "One of the Boys, "Late Night with John McGivern", "That John McGivern Thing," "An Evening with John McGivern," and "Midsummer Night McGivern." Born one of six children in a Milwaukee Irish Catholic working class family, his topics include parents, nuns, school, and being the one who could never throw a ball! These are monologues told with sincerity, compassion, and humor.

Among John's many stage appearances, he is probably best known for his role as Tony Whitcomb in the long running comedy hit, "Shear Madness." He has played the role in Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, D.C., Tampa, St. Paul, and San Francisco. He is also proud to have been part of the Studio Theater's Helen Hayes award winning production of "March of the Falsettos" as Mendel. John was also seen in "A Lawyer, a Priest and an Atheist Walk into a Bar" at The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Other favorite roles include an elf in David Sedaris' "The Santaland Diaries", a seedy diplomat in "Homebody/Kabul", Felix Unger in "The Odd Couple", Mason in "Take Me Out", and over forty characters in the one-man show, "Fully Committed".

A frequent guest on the WKLH-FM 96.5 Dave and Carole morning radio show in Milwaukee, John can also be seen on Fridays on WTMJ 4's "Daily Dish" segment.

Tickets to John McGivern are $45.00 for the performance and $65.00 for the performance and reception. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (262) 782-4430.
