We have auditions for all performances at The Playhouse, and anyone is welcome to come out and show us what they’ve got!

Scripts can be checked out at the box office Tuesday-Friday (1-5pm) and Saturday (1-4pm) with a $10 deposit. No guarantee of availability.

The Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove announces auditions for the ninth season of its professional Musical MainStage Concert series. Auditions will take place from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, April 12th at Sunset Playhouse.

Musical MainStage is a series of concerts requiring four professional singers and one Rising Star per show. Styles include musical theater, standards, pop, and rock. Rehearsals are minimal with performances on Mondays and Tuesdays. Please bring 32 bars of sheet music in your key; accompanist will be provided.
Students who will be enrolled in any area high school September, 2014 through June, 2015 are eligible to be selected a Rising Star. Professionals who have previously auditioned for or have performed in this series do not need to be seen again. To schedule an audition, please call the Sunset Playhouse box office at 262-782-4430 during office hours (Tuesdays thru Fridays, 1-5pm and Saturdays, 1-4pm). 
Those who wish to audition will be asked to fill out an Audition Information Sheet prior to auditions. One may fill this out the day of auditions or ahead of time by downloading the RISING STAR Form or PROFESSIONAL ARTIST Form.

The loons are back again on Golden Pond and so are Norman and Ethel Thayer, a couple in the twilight years of their marriage. Daughter Chelsea, whom they have not seen for years and whose relationship with her father is stormy, is about to arrive for Norman's birhtday, along with her fiance and his 13 year old son. Chelsea has decided to leave Billy in her parents' care while she and her fiance visit Europe. Norman and Billy become great friends, leading Chelsea to attempt a better relationship with her father.


  • Norman Thayer, Jr.: 70s-80s; very humorous in his elderly age
  • Ethel Thayer: 60s-70s; Norman's wife; a caregiver and dear friend
  • Charlie Martin: 30s-40s; a local delivery-by-boat mailman; a family friend; still single, he has had a life-long crush on Chelsea.

  • Bill Ray: 40s; Chelsea's fiancé and Billy's father; not the outdoors type; tries to make a good impression on her parents

  • Those interested in auditioning should plan to attend the entire audition time (Noon to 2pm) on Saturday, May 17.

    Also, there's no need for you to bring a song or prepare a dance–we'll teach you one when you get here!

All adults (15 years and above)

  • Adult Vocal Auditions: Monday May 19 & Wednesday, May 21, 2014, 7-10 pm
  • Adult Callbacks: Thursday, May 22, 2014, 7-10 pm
  • Those interested in auditioning should plan on attending Monday or Wednesday for the vocal audition as well as callbacks on Thursday.

    Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a song in the style of the show, but not from the show specifically. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided.

What do Ethel Merman, Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone and Tyne Daly have in common?

All have played the brassy, bossy Mama Rose in New York productions of GYPSY.

Loosely based on the memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, this musical focuses on Rose, the driving force behind her daughters. When Rose pushes the teenage Louise into service as a last minute replacement for a second class club's lead stripper, Louise discovers her way to fortune and fame, eventually becoming Gypsy Rose Lee and one of Minsky's biggest stars.
